“From the moment we first met it was evident that Personal Training is not only a career for Deane, but a passion he has explored and studied over decades. He pairs this deep knowledge with kindness, patience, and encouragement. I learnt all of this first hand over the past six months as Deane has helped me to recover from chronic back pain resulting from years of biking, skiing, and contact sports. I thought I had to give up the sports I love, but Deane has shown me I can repair my back, regain mobility and balance, and get strong again. He has succeeded where numerous physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and fitness trainers have failed. I am grateful for all he has done for me.”
“I am 67 years old and I had some serious back issues. I met Deane and WOW!! back problems are all but gone. I truly believe in Deane’s approach and feel great about referring patients to him that are interested in wanting to help themselves.”
”I would like to thank Deane Birkett for relieving my intense back pain. Eight years ago I had surgical decompression for spinal stenosis followed by surgical fixation of 2 lumbar vertebrae for spondolythesis. One year ago walking had become extremely painful again, and my right hip was replaced. Since that time I continued to have back pain, especially when walking; at times it was so painful I had to stop and rest. My neurosurgeon, my orthopedic surgeon and an MRI could not explain the cause of pain. In 3 weeks of ELDOA training with Deane my low back pain has been relieved and I am mostly out of pain. I am very grateful to Deane. And I know this is just the beginning of improved health and activity for me. Deane’s expert knowledge and intuitive understanding have changed my life!”
”Deane is a Master of his craft. He has developed a personal conditioning program of exercises and movements that have increased my flexibility and mobility leading to a more fluid golf swing and lower scores.”
”I used to wake up and take over an hour to loosen up and stretch. My posture was that of an old man, well beyond my years. Since working with Deane I’ve regained more vigor and movement such that I feel flexible for all physical movements I need to accomplish. Thanks Deane.”
“Deane’s unique approach really works if you want to perform and move better without pain.”
“At 65 sore knees were definitely slowing me down on the tennis court. Very quickly, after starting to work with Deane, my joints had become springs again and I was moving seeing the court , changing direction and running down lobs, like I'd lost 25 years. Quite amazing when you're suddenly feeling no pain, and no limitations. Deane will have you doing all sorts of exercises that no other trainer even thinks of. A true original, Deane will help you knock years off your age, guaranteed!”
“My husband started working with Deane less than a year ago. I’ve seen a change in the way his clothes fit, the way he carries himself but most importantly, a change in his ability to get outside and play. I love my husband and with these changes it feels like I have a younger boyfriend now. Cheers to Deane for bringing out the best in my favorite person.”
Nashville Predators forward Eric Nystrom got Miller into it, out in LA.
Watching the defenseman on the ice is one thing - it's effortless for him, especially with his pure strength.
Watching the defensemen and the rest of his class on Wednesday night in Santa Monica, led by therapist and personal trainer Deane Birkett, hold difficult yoga-like poses, purse their lips, and sweat out buckets was definitely not what we were expecting.
"This is way harder for me," laughed Miller, who graciously let the cameras document what is not an easy workout for him. "This is way harder for me than weight training or anything like that. It's a lot of holding your body in different situations and if you're just looking at it, it doesn't look as hard but then you go and do it, and it's definitely challenging."
"I think it's because my hips are so tight," he laughed, while explaining the difficult poses.
"That's something I need to work on, and something that I'm trying to get better at, so, anything that can help."
There's always something to work on, right?
"Always something to work on," he said.
The trainer, Deane Birkett, hasn't known Miller for a long time, but he saw something in him right away. "He works hard," was Birkett's immediate response when I asked what he's learned about the defenseman since he's known him.
"And the reason why is, he's got a goal. And he realizes, he's smart enough, he's an intelligent athlete and he realizes that if he wants a long-term career to be able to sustain the knocks, open up the joints so that when he does sustain the knocks, the joints can handle it."

“After finishing up my professional career playing football my back was a mess. After seeing a number of chiropractors, therapists and even a surgeon for answers I was told by a colleague about getting help from Deane. I did, and after a couple of months I am well on my way to getting out of pain and moving a lot better. Deane, you are a Godsend. Thank you!”
